Grandma's Guidance

I have been working with children of all ages as a pre-school teacher, and for the last 27 years as a teacher of languages and literature on upper secondary level. I also teach psychology and am - even though I am almost 60 years old - still studying psychology at the University of Luleå, Sweden. Furthermore I have a profound interest in yoga and art, and hold a certificate in art therapy.

Why this blog?

Do you ever feel like being a parent is more demanding than you expected? Like there are so many experts out there that your sometimes begin to doubt yourself? And that all this advice and expertise is so overwhelming that you simply don't know where to begin? All you know is that your kids mean everything to you, and that you would gladly give your own heart to them this instant, should they need it.

As a devoted educator, loving parent, and proud grandmother, I have spent my days surrounded by children and adolescents. I have noted how extremely loyal children and teenagers are to their parents and how nothing - nothing in the world - compares to their mum or dad when things get tough. This applies to toddlers and to 16-year-olds who swear they hate you. They really don't. But I also know that as a parent it doesn't always feel that way. With this blog I want to give you the best help I possibly can without claiming to be an expert. Because you're the expert when it comes to your child. I want to show you simple methods and ideas which may help you connect at your own pace, in the comfort of your home.
Remember, no amount of external advice can replace the unique bond and influence that you have with your child. Let us rise above the noise of the world and remember that, above all else, being there for our children is the most powerful gift we can give them. Whether they are two or sixteen. I promise you, that little toddler is still in there somewhere.

All it takes is a few moments of uninterrupted presence and an open mind. The ideas will be here for the taking.
